Literature Text

her voice is lyrical over her espresso;

he doesn't take a cigarette with his own coffee,
he is more persistently addicted to her.

"What do you know about me?" she demands, incredulous.

"that your favorite sodas are the ones with the pretty names,
like Mountain Dew and Gingerale and Sierra Mist,
and you hate Coke
but aren't sure about Diet Cherry Vanilla Pepsi."

She takes another sip of her latte and smiles nonchalantly.
Meanwhile, the amber ringlets framing her face sway on either side.
One falls precariously over her pursed lips.

"and you always choose whole milk,"
he adds. As an afterthought.

she shakes her head, and again her hair waterfalls
from side to side just above her breastbone. "You're wrong."
"There was an entire year I would only take skim."

her voice is melodic, and venerates harmony.
"Everyone wants to be near you," he flatters her. "You are compelling,
abstruse and of such mysterious nature that no one might ever bother to
thoroughly understand you."

And she is perfectly human.

She finishes her drink and stands, throwing the cup on the ground
and darting towards her car.

He picks the cup up, and throws it into a trash can.

By then, she is in front of the wheel, her shoulders shifting
and her left foot feeling for the brake. He catches up to the window.
She locks the doors.

"And that I am in love with you," he adds.

"No. Love is mutual."

She locks her doors again, out of habit, and rolls the window up.
Then she jams the keys into the ignition
and drives across the street, turning the car off.

Tomorrow he will buy her another coffee and she will drink it
in front of him. Then she will say something else that is
obscene and unforgivable,
and dissapate;

and he will light his first cigarette of the day.

:nod: Beautiful, it seems like a frame taken from something bigger... I really love the way it all starts with that spellbinding incipit and also the way you carry out the "opposition" between the two characters... even when they are close there is always something separating them (physical or not).
